Almost every English word in the dictionary that is under 10 letters is taken... trust us, we checked! We used a word list that contained over 85,000 words and the only words that were available were words like "anthropogenically.com", "broodiness.com", and “predeclared.com". It doesn't take a genius to know that adverbs don't normally make good domain names. So there are two ways to come up with new words: 1) methodically combine every letter of the alphabet and 2) randomly combine letters.
Methodically combining letters guarantees that you can't miss any great words, however, sifting through billions of letter combinations is a hugely time-consuming endeavor. We had our .com checker start checking every combination of 3 letters and they were all taken. We then had it check 4 letters and they were all taken as well! (Actually, the last 4 letter domain was taken in 2007.) But just for fun (and to prove to ourselves) we had it go through the alphabet in qwerty order. It checked: QQQQ, QQQW, QQQE, QQQR, QQQT, etc. We didn't actually check the entire spectrum of 4 letter words (a total of 456,976 = 26 ^ 4) but after the first 1,000 were all unavailable, we figured we'll go with the blogs that say all 4 letter combinations are gone. After 4 letter words comes 5 letter words. There are a total of 11,881,376 letter combinations (26 ^ 5) that contain 5 letters. That is a lot of words to go through. There are over 300 million for 6 letters, over 80 billion for 7 letters and so on. This leads us to randomly combining letters.
Randomly combining letters is the best way to more efficiently generate words without having to sift through billions of unpronouncable combinations. The Domain Word Cruncher is a random word generator. Random word generators are common on the internet, but most of them require that you seed the generator with a word list. Our special word generator comes pre-seeded with the best words out there. This means you don't have to waste time coming up with words. It is so good at creating random words that sometimes you will even see real English words show up.
